Maastricht University has used Problem-Based Learning (PBL) ever since it was founded for over 35 years. PBL is more than just acquiring knowledge; it’s about exchanging knowledge with Europe-focused and international-oriented programmes.
Researchers at UM work in multidisciplinary teams and in close cooperation with international institutes, business and industry. UM also believes in young talent and integrates research into every level of education.
Almost 45% of the students and more than 30% of the teaching staff come from abroad. Most of the programmes are taught in English and European and international themes are deeply rooted in research and education. Maastricht University maintains strong ties to the region, which is seen in initiatives such as the 'Kennis-As Limburg' and the collaboration with Hasselt University (B) in transnational University Limburg.
